Jennifer Lopez, is asking a judge to give her back her maiden name during her divorce from Ben Affleck.
lopez filed for divorce from Affleck, who is 52, on August 20, after being married for two years.
In the court papers, Lopez asked to have her old name, Jennifer Lynn Lopez, restored.
In her filing, Lopez mentioned “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their breakup and stated that neither she nor Affleck should receive spousal support.
She reviewed the process to separate their things {assets and debts}, adding,“The exact nature and extent of separate property assets and obligations are unknown to Petitioner at this time. Petitioner reserves the right to amend this Petition when same is ascertained.”
They reportedly did not have a prenup, which could result in a dispute over their assets, such as their $68 million Beverly Hills mansion that is currently for sale.
In simpler terms, she and Affleck still have to decide how to divide their assets in the divorce.
In a December 2022 interview with Vogue, the Unstoppable actress expressed her pride in being Mrs. Affleck and talked about her choice to change her last name legally.
“We’re husband and wife. I’m proud of that. I don’t think that’s a problem,” she said at the time.
The This Is Me…Now singer pointed out that “people are still going to call me Jennifer Lopez,” however, her “legal name” would be “Mrs. Affleck because we’re joined together.”
She mentioned that even though others might have their views on her changing her last name, she considered it a “romantic” gesture.
“It still carries tradition and romance to me, and maybe I’m just that kind of girl.”
